How Proposals will be Judged
Proposals will be judged against the following criteria:
- 25 % - Originality of the core idea and the soundness of the technical reasoning behind it.
- 25 % - Technical ‘elegance’ of the approach – brute force will work, but something a bit more creative would be seen as an advantage.
- 25 % - Benefits of the study – how could your idea or research lead to knowledge that is noteworthy or useful?
- 25 % - Quality of the submission – a great idea is a great idea, but a great proposal will contain a good idea, clearly stated, with a proposed path to put it into practice. Do not mistake quantity for quality.
A panel of judges shall be selected from within ESI, including members of the business, product development, operations, and research teams of our Germany, Spain, France, UK, and US offices. The scores from each judge shall be weighted the same. Proposals are provided to the judges without identifying personal information of the Applicant. The Winner will be the Applicant with the best score. In the event of a tie, the better score in the Benefits category and the comments provided by the judges will be determinative. In the event this does not resolve a tie, the entry made first in time will win. ESI reserves the right to administer the judging in phases, to bring in additional or different judges in at any time, and to allow judges to discuss the merits of the entries amongst themselves.
